New Leader Information

There are several resources available for new leaders. 

So You're A New Advisor is a succinct job description for new Venturing Advisors.

Your Venturing Crew or Ship is a four-page summary of the various adult job descriptions that might be assigned in a crew.  For a new crew or a small crew, it probably has more jobs than are needed to keep the crew functioning initially.  As the crew grows, then more of the jobs will be needed.

The Venturing Leader Manual is the standard leadership manual for both youth officers and adult advisors.  Since Venturing is a cooperative effort between the youth members and adults, this manual is written primarily for the youth, but includes everything an adult needs to know.  This manual is for sale at the Scout Shop, catalog number 34655.  You need this document.

The Venturer Handbook/Ranger Handbook (No. 33494) is the primary handbook for youth interested in the Silver Award or Ranger Award program.  It contains all the requirements for earning Bronze, Gold, Silver and Ranger Awards.  It provides reference materials for the Outdoor Bronze and Ranger Awards. 

The Quest Handbook (No. 33151) contains the complete requirements and much resource information on earning the Sports Bronze and the Quest Award.  The Quest is a sports and fitness award.

The Fieldbook (No. 33104) is a modern manual of outdoor living that meshes superbly with the Outdoor Bronze and Ranger Award skills.  Outdoor oriented youth and adults should find this an invaluable reference.

The Venturing Leadership Skills Course (No. 34340) is a 24-hour training for all Venturers managed by the Advisor, and taught by experienced Venturers (or adults if necessary).  This syllabus is explicit, and does not require a great deal of experience for the Advisor to put on.  The Venturers decide on their crew's Vision, then are taught how Communication, Organization and Synergism can help them reach their goals.

The Sea Scout Manual (No. 33239) is specifically designed for Sea Scouts, their advancement, and a program of high adventure on the water.  Aquatics crews may find much useful information there.
