Philmont Preparation

For Adult Leaders

This is a 90-minute class with detailed instructions and tips on how to plan a successful trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. Philmont Prep is taught two times per year – at the University of Scouting (February) and the High Adventure Rally (September).  The class covers planning and preparation, getting in shape, leadership expectations (youth and adult), trek selection, day one at Philmont, personal gear, and crew gear.  It is an opportunity to talk with the High Adventure Committee’s Philmont experts and get answers to questions about Philmont.

This course is recommended for first-time crew advisors and as a refresher for adults who have been to Philmont.

The High Adventure Committee also conducts a special Philmont Prep session for crew advisors going to Philmont on the council contingent.  This session is normally held in March and is open to advisors and scoutmasters going to Philmont on their own or on the council contingent.
