Historical Reference
On April 21, 1836 the future of Texas was decided on the plains of San Jacinto. Amid a field of bluebonnets and beneath Treaty Oak, Sam Houston secured the birth of Texas.
Although there is evidence of Scouting units as early as 1909, official Boy Scouts of America units started springing up in the Houston area after incorporation in 1910. By March of 1913 the community organized itself in support of the Scouting units.
On April 11, 1914 the Sam Houston Area Council received its first charter to give boys the benefits of the Scouting Movement in accordance with the official handbook of the National Council.
In April of 1918 the Council acquired its first camp property. And since that date has supported a camping facility for our youth.
Purpose of the Shoulder Strip
To support the Council’s camping facilities – El Rancho Cima, Bovay Scout Ranch, Camp Brosig, Camp Strake, and Hamman Scout Camp – the Sam Houston Area Council is offering a collector’s edition quality, fully embroidered shoulder patch that parallels the birth of the State of Texas and the Sam Houston Area Council eyes toward the future. We feel that all Scouts and Scouters of the Council will be proud to display our Texas Heritage and Future on their shoulder.
100% of the sales proceeds will go to help support and secure the future of our Council’s camping program.

You may only purchase this special edition shoulder strip from Program Services at the Cockrell Scout Center or on-line. Cost is $6.
