Attention all SHAC scouts and scouters! The next BSA National Jamboree will be held in August 2013 at the new Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in the mountains of West Virginia. This Jamboree will be the first at this premier new facility. For directions on how to register, click here. If you want to be part of breaking in the new site adjacent to the New River Gorge National River as part of the Sam Houston Area Council contingent, register https://summit.scouting.org/en/Pages/default.aspxnow.  

Parents can register their scouts by completing the online registration forms. The application will require a small registration fee. Once applications are completed online, they must be printed out, approved and signed by the scout’s Scoutmaster, and returned to the Sam Houston Area Council (Attention: Brett Lee) with a $250 deposit. Priority for selection will be based on date of receipt of completed applications and deposits. The deposit will be credited towards the full payment for participation in the contingent. At this time, the Council Jamboree Committee has not set the final cost or determined the itinerary for the contingent, but it is expected that individual cost for participation in the council contingent will be between $2000 and $2500, which includes transportation to and from the Jamboree site, food and lodging during travel. Adult leaders for each troop will include Scoutmaster, and three Assistant Scoutmasters. One of the three Assistants will be between 18-21 years old. Adults register online just as with the scouts; however, final selection of the adult leaders will be accomplished by the Jamboree committee before 1 February 2012. Scouts will be placed into one of the nine council troops during the Spring of 2012. As the Jamboree Committee determines more complete information for the travel, itinerary, and costs, it will post it on the council website and in the e-Scouter. This Jamboree is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ever, and will bring with it many new firsts. Plan to join us at the Summit!

Sam Houston Area Council Jamboree CSP’s Available  

 While supplies last, there are a limited number of the SHAC Jamboree CSP’s available for purchase.  The patches are at the front counter of the Cockrell Scout Center and are $5.00 each while supplies last.  JSP’s representing all nine of the council’s Jamboree troops and the council Jamboree promotional JSP are available; sold out are the “Eagle Has Landed” ( Scholarship JSP ) and the “Mars Rover” ( Jamboree Staff JSP ).
