The Recognition Dinner is an opportunity for a night of fellowship and great food as we acknowledge and thank our adult volunteers for the hard work and dedication that made this year incredibly successful. George Strake District’s outstanding leaders at the unit and district levels will also be recognized. All volunteers in George Strake District are invited.

The registration fee is $20 per person. Tables of eight can be purchased for $120. There is no onsite registration. Pay online with credit card or electronic check. Council refund policy.

District Award Nominations

Nominate Scouters who have provided outstanding service to the Scouting program. Think of all the good work you've seen in our district during the past year and who needs to be recognized for it. This might be a leader in a unit, a district event chair, or a fellow commissioner.

District Awards
District Award of Merit: Council award presented for continuous service to the Scouting program at the district level. The number presented is determined per guidelines in BSA Advancement Policies and Procedures Guidebook. The recognition is the District Award of Merit overhand knot and plaque. The nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth and should have contributed to some type of service to youth outside of Scouting.- Chartered Partner of the Year Award: Presented to chartered partners that have demonstrated excellence in relationships. The award may be presented to several chartered partners as determined by the District Awards Selection Committee. The recognition will be a plaque. The chartered partner should demonstrate outstanding or distinctive relationships beyond the normal expectation, provides noteworthy service to youth, contributing to increased youth participation and select and recruit quality unit leadership.
- Commissioner of the Year is selected by the district commissioner for outstanding commissioner service to units in the district.
- Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award is presented for the Eagle Scout project, completed in the current year, that is deemed to be the most outstanding of those nominated. Projects considered for the Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award will have met the criteria as specified by BSA, and may be nominated for recognition by any unit-registered adult leader. All projects performed in the George Strake District by registered Scouts are eligible for consideration.
- Family of the Year Award: Presented to a family that is committed to supporting George Strake District and the Scouting program. The recognition is an award selected by the district committee.
- James V. Walker Outstanding Scout Award: Presented to an outstanding youth in George District who has performed above and beyond the call of duty in service to Scouting, community, church, and the district. The recognition will be a gold pine cone hanging from a red, white and blue ribbon. NOTE: The unit leader and the committee chairperson must endorse the nomination. The nominee should have participation in district and council events and camps and community service outside of Scouting.
- Leroy Golson Award is given to a dedicated worker who often labors behind the scenes.
- Outstanding Scout Leader Award: Presented for outstanding unit service – which would include any registered leader of a pack, troop, crew, or ship. The award may be presented to several unit leaders as determined by the District Awards Selection Committee. The recognition will be a plaque. The nominee should have completed basic training, earned the training knot for their registered position and led the unit in achieving the Journey to Excellence Award.
- Outstanding Unit Service Project Award is presented for a unit (pack, troop, crew, ship) level service project, completed in the current year, that is outstanding in scope, need fulfilled, or originality, and may be nominated for recognition by any unit-registered adult leader. All projects, that are not Eagle Scout service projects, performed in the George Strake District by registered Scouts are eligible for consideration.
- Patricia Gibson Brown Distinguished Service Award: Presented to a Scouter of George Strake District for extended service and tenure to Scouting and whose long-term efforts and contributions reflect the Spirit of Scouting at its best. The recognition is a special award and a gold pine cone hanging from a purple ribbon.
- Pine Tree Award is presented to outstanding volunteers who have supported the district above and beyond the call of duty.
- Scout Leader of the Year is presented for outstanding unit service.
- Scout Leader’s Training Award is selected by the district training chairman.
- Spirit of Scouting Award: Presented to an individual or group who has shown extraordinary Scouting Spirit through ongoing efforts or on a specific project. The person or group nominated need not be a registered Scouter. The recognition is an award selected by the district committee.
Additional Adult Awards: Council and National Awards
- Silver Beaver Award – The Silver Beaver Award is a national award presented by the council. It is the highest form of recognition that a local council can bestow on a volunteer. Nominations are due by May 1. The District Recognition Chair is available to assist Scouters in preparing nominations.
- Unit Leader Award of Merit – Recognizes Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, and Skippers who provide a quality program to youth. Nominations accepted at any time.
- Venturing Leadership Award – Recognizes Venturers who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Venturing Code. Nominations are due by June 15.
- William T. Hornaday Gold Badge – Recognizes adult volunteers for influence on youth and educational programs, with an emphasis on sound stewardship of natural resources and environmental improvement during a period of at least three years.
- SHAC Conservation Award – Recognizes youth for completing a Hornaday qualifying conservation project, and adult volunteers for involvement in teaching the value of natural systems and wise resource management.
- William D. Boyce New-Unit Organizer Award - Presented to recognize volunteers who organize one or more traditional Scouting units. The recognition is a knot and a certificate.
